Problems I can help with

At SC-Therapies, I address a wide range of psychological issues:

Anxiety

Feeling afraid is very much part of the human experience and a survival instinct. Sometimes anxiety occurs in the absence of real danger, only perceived or potential danger.  Anxiety stems from an overestimation about the level of threat and the underestimation of one's ability to cope. A lot of the time anxiety is caused by a person's need “TO KNOW!". This ongoing worry and tension can interfere with daily activities and can cause physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, difficulty sleeping, and irritability.

Assertiveness & Anger Management

Assertiveness and anger management are crucial for maintaining healthy relationships, creating healthy boundaries, often with significant others and will increase personal well-being and fulfilment. At SC-Therapies, I offer a type of behavioural therapy that will encourage you to express your needs and wants in a confident and respectful manner, without feelings of guilt and shame.

Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem, the rating of the self (negatively), can affect every aspect of your life, from your mood and personal relationships to your professional performance. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy has been proven to be highly effective in helping individuals move towards a more self-accepting stance.  I provide a safe and supportive space to help explore what it means to be human, to accept, evolve and grow. I specialise in using evidence-based therapies like CBT and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy to address underlying unhealthy beliefs about the world/others and the self that contribute to low self-esteem.

Mood Management

Mood management is essential for maintaining mental well-being.  Depression can manifest as persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, helplessness and worthlessness. It can lead to sleep disturbances, fatigue and loss of interest in all activities, even those that brought joy.

These deep-rooted thinking patterns that cause low mood often create vicious cycles that can be hard to break. By addressing unhealthy thought patterns and behaviours that perpetuate these cycles, I can help you develop healthy thought patterns that will improve your mood and quality of life.

Trauma

Both single incident and complex childhood trauma can have a significant long-term effect on your mental and emotional well-being. I offer specialist treatment within NICE guidelines that include Trauma Stabilisation, sometimes followed by Trauma Focused therapy, to help you process traumatic events that appear stuck, and will enable you to heal and move forward. I use evidence-based therapies like CBT and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, to manage negative emotions and provide comprehensive support for trauma recovery..

Relationship problems

I understand that relationships can be complex and challenging. Whether you are navigating conflict, overcoming relational challenges, or processing relationship loss, I'm here to support you.

My relational therapy is designed to support you in identifying your triggers and to provide a safe space to manage feelings of hurt, anger, anxiety and/or jealousy, guilt and shame and and/or process negative events that may have happened. I ensure a holistic approach to your therapy needs and will empower you to change your behaviour through assertiveness training.

Health Anxieties

Health-related anxieties can cause significant distress. I provide information about health anxiety, including how it develops, how it is maintained and how to manage excessive worries, concerns and unhelpful behaviours, such as the need for reassurance.

REBT for Students and Teens

REBT is an evidence based holistic approach that can help young people manage cognitive, emotional and behavioural disturbances in sustainable ways. My experience as a Student CBT/REBT therapist and at IAPT found that the approach helped students manage emotional dysregulation that can result in self-harm. The approach was also helpful in offering behavioural strategies and managing symptoms associated with ADHD.

Perfectionism/Competitive Anxiety

REBT is an effective intervention for regulation of competitive anxiety, perfectionism and high-achieving individuals. One psychological factor that has been shown to exacerbate anxiety in athletes is the fear of not performing to the best of their ability. Perfectionism involves setting rigid expectations for oneself, striving for extremely high standards for oneself and others, typically accompanied by harsh self-criticism, often leading to significant stress and dissatisfaction. This relentless pursuit can result in negative consequences, such as anxiety, depression, and a constant feeling of inadequacy..
